Yellow geometric figures of people, horses, and birds against multicolor vertical bands, sewn together in the middle with multicolor thread, taped to white board. 29 7/8" H x 31 3/4" W. Circa 1920. 2nd item: Guatemalan ceremonial Tzute, cotton and silk on cotton panels. Multicolor geometric figures of people, a llama, and diamond shaped patterns against off-white background with red, green, and brown vertical bands, sewn together in the middle with multicolor thread, top edge hemmed with purple and yellow thread. 30" H x 36" W. 3rd item: Guatemalan ceremonial Tzute, cotton and silk on cotton panels. Multicolor chevron patterns arranged in horizontal columns against off-white background, panels no longer sewn together. Both panels: 31" H x 18" W. 4th item: Guatemalan ceremonial Tzute, cotton and silk on cotton panel. Multicolor geometric figures of people and diamond shaped patterns against light brown background with multicolor vertical bands, top edge hemmed by yellow thread. 25" H x 18 1/2" W. 5th item: Guatemalan ceremonial Tzute, wool on wool panels. Brown and grey figures of Chief or Priest against black background with off white border surrounded by multicolor horizontal bands with lines and diamond shaped patterns, sewn together in the middle with off-white thread. Top edges of panels attached to piece of wood, tassels on bottom edges. 75" H x 60" W. 6th item: Pair of Guatemalan traditional pants, wool on cotton. Multicolor flower pots, birds, and other geometric designs embroidered on bottom half of pant legs against off white background with black and orange grid, partially hemmed with white thread. 36" H x 28 3/4" W. 2nd-6th items: Early 20th century. Provenance: Former collection of Baker Brownell (1887-1965), an American philosopher, writer, and educator. He traveled extensively throughout his life including a 6-month sojourn into the interior of Guatemala. Condition: 1st item: Some edges fraying, few spots of discoloration on surface, 1" thread loss, middle of board. 2nd item: Edges fraying, few spots of discoloration on surface, fabric damaged, top right. 3rd item: Edges fraying, few spots of discoloration, few areas of fabric damage. 4th item: Edges fraying, few spots of discoloration on surface, few areas of fabric damage. 5th item: Fabric damage, bottom right foot of figure on left panel. 6th item: Few stains on surface, sewing undone, left side.
