Four (4) unframed modernist oil on board portraits by Sterling Strauser (American, 1907-1995), with facial details rendered in sgraffito. 1st item: Possible self portrait, bust length, 24 in. x 20 in, signed upper right and dated 1955, inscribed en verso “To Grandpa Wolbach from Grandpa Strauser 9/17/61.” 2nd item: Portrait of a woman, bust length, with glasses in purple dress, 20 in. x 16 in., signed upper right and dated 1989. 3rd item: Portrait of a young man with long hair, bust length, 18 in. x 14 in. The subject is the son of Nashville gallery owner Myron King, who represented Strauser for many years. Signed lower left and inscribed “Buck Hill Falls, July 2, 1975.” 4th item: Portrait of a baby, full length, 24 in. x 15 in. Signed lower left and dated 1950.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Myron King, Nashville, Tennessee, all acquired directly from the artist.
CONDITION: All unframed with wear to edges and corners, scattered minor scratches and small abrasions, overall good condition.
