Attributed to Mogens Vantore (Denmark, 1895-1977) oil on canvas abstract painting, rendered in light impasto, depicting a female figure, possibly Vantore's wife, with short brown hair dressed in a blue robe, seated sideways on a red chair, and gazing into a white hand mirror or fan in her left hand. An abstracted interior with a dark green couch, small table, and window are in the background. Signed possibly "Vantore" in the upper right corner. Handwritten sticker label with number, artist, and designation of "Vantore's Wife Looking in the Mirror" with additional numbering, en verso. Housed in a textured giltwood frame. Sight: 32 1/2" H x 25 3/4" W. Frame: 37 3/4" H x 31" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, TN.
CONDITION: Seam between two canvas pieces evident spanning width of the lower quadrant of the canvas with corresponding reinforcement of canvas, en verso. Frame with scattered losses to gilt, largest measuring 1/4" H x 1 3/4" W.
