Spanish Colonial oil on canvas painting of The Nativity. Mary and the Christ child are depicted with halos and surrounded by shepherds, with a donkey and bull's head visible in the background. With Chattanooga Art Association and Hunter Museum of Art, Chattanooga, labels affixed to stretcher and frame. Housed in an ebonized wood frame. Sight: 31 1/4" H x 45" W. Framed: 38" H x 52" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by the Hunter Museum of American Art.
CONDITION: Scattered abrasions to canvas, primarily to the right side, rubbing to the perimeter of the canvas. Scattered areas of craquelure retouch throughout, old water damage along lower edge. Repaired tear lower left, about 1/14" L. Canvas is brittle.
