1st item: British School oil on canvas landscape painting. A man leads a flock of sheep down a country road toward a distant barn or cottage, past a woman, partially turned as if to greet him, as she walks toward her own nearby cottage. The painting is illegibly signed, “B. C/G–s (?)” lower right, and the Louis XV style carved and giltwood frame bears a later plaque with artist attribution “B. Cottis” and title “Homeward Bound.” Sight: 17 1/2 in. W. x 11 in. H. Frame: 25 in. W x 19 in. H. 2nd item: British School oil on canvas painting depicting a sailboat off the coast of a land mass with lighthouse. Illegibly signed lower left S.—-aker. Panel 4 in. H x 7 1/2 in. W. Housed in an antique molded and giltwood frame, 8 in. x 12 in. Both late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Middle Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: 1st item: Painting with craquelure and light yellowing to varnish layer. Some areas of retouch to sky area visible under UV light. Frame has been regilt with some small surface losses. 2nd item: Painting: Excellent condition. Frame: Some staining lower right and scattered age separations and minor repairs.
