American School Miniature Portrait plus a Eugen Klimsch Genre Scene with lighted stand. 1st item: Eugen Johann Georg Klimsch (German, 1839-1896) miniature watercolor on paper genre scene depicting a gentleman in 18th century clothing handing a letter to a lady, seated and attended by another woman, in an elegant interior setting with drape, column and urn in the background. Signed Eugen Klimsch and dated 1878 lower right. Housed in a later giltwood frame with gilt mat, under glass. Sight: 5 1/2 in. H x. 4 in. W. Frame: 11 1/2 in. H x 10 1/2 in. W. Together with a lighted display stand, 14 in. H x 8 in W x 7 in. D. 2nd item: American school miniature watercolor portrait depicting a man dark coat with yellow vest and white tie, seated before a red drape and column. Unsigned. In rectangular gilt metal frame. Sight: 2 3/4 in. H x 2 1/4 in. W. Framed: 3 3/16 in. H x 2 11/16 in. W. Early 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Chattanooga area collection.
CONDITION: 1st item: Painting in excellent condition, light rippling. Lighted stand functional at time of inspection, rewiring recommended. 2nd item: Some wear to paint at lower right corner, otherwise very good condition. Fabric residue to frame from previous external matting and framing. Lacks backing.
