Near pair of two (2) French Louis XVI style diminutive marquetry commodes, each with variegated demilune shaped marble top over a conforming case with three dovetailed drawers flanked by cabinet drawers opening to shelves, with foliate and ribbon swag inlay and gilt mountings throughout, on tapered legs with plain sabots. 33" H x 26" W x 13 1/2" D. Circa 1900.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: One commode with a replaced marble top of similar period but smaller size than the original. Minor scattered age splits and losses to veneer, largest measuring 5/8" x 5/8". Minor small scattered repairs to veneer. One commode with later added green felt liner to shelves and loss to locking mechanism of right door. Other commode with marble top slightly smaller than commode and missing two sabots to rear feet.
