Dixie Hampson Durham (Arkansas/Tennessee, 1913-2010) oil on canvas impressionist style painting depicting a tree trunk with white mushrooms and lichen moss, with a tree frog seated atop a mushroom in the lower margin, rendered with heavy impasto. Signed "Dixie" lower right. Information about the work attached en verso. Housed in a painted wood frame. Sight: 28" H x 21" W. Framed: 30 1/2" H x 24 1/2" W. Biography: Dixie Durham is known for her paintings depicting Southern scenes. She received her first formal art training at James Lee Art Academy (now the Memphis Art Academy) in Memphis and later studied with Jerry Farnsworth at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. She also attended the Memphis Academy of Art and studied with Paul Penczner in Memphis.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with wear to frame.
