Federal inlaid walnut stand attributed to Kentucky. Walnut with poplar secondary, pegged construction. Square top with string inlaid outer edges over a single dovetailed drawer with beaded edge and string inlay surrounding the original oval brass bail pull. Square tapered legs with string inlay, rounded at the top and terminating in string inlaid cuffs at the feet. Front legs are inlaid on three sides and rear legs on exterior sides. 28 3/4 in. H x 18 in. W x 17 3/4 in. D. First quarter of the 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Kentucky collection, by descent from Jeannette Marks of Lexington.
CONDITION: The drawer has been rebuilt with nailed joinery and the original drawer front retained. Wear and minor losses to string inlay, especially at top edges. 1/2 inch area of loss and larger adjacent loose area of wood at corner of right front leg. Scuffs, abrasion and general wear.
