Two dolls, German or French, with French purses. 1st doll: Unmarked Bisque socket head doll with blonde wig and blue stationary eyes, composition body with no joints at wrists and feet, blue striped silk dress with lace collar and paste "diamond" brooch, stockings and black leather shoes. Carries a blue silk reticule with mirrored base, tagged "Made in France." Circa 1915. 17-1/2"H. 2nd doll: Doll with bisque shoulder plate head marked J 8-1/2, brown stationary eyes and brown long wig, kid leather body with bisque forearms, long cotton and lace gown. Carries a white silk reticule with pink trim and mirrored base marked "Made in France." Probably German, possibly Kestner, Circa 1895. Provenance: Estate of Frances R. Van Winkle, Knoxville, TN, daughter of Elsie Schmidt Jachowski, collector and past president of Dollogy Club of Washington, DC. Condition: 1st doll: cracking to fingers on one hand, grime to face and wig, 1 shoe torn, small tears and stains to dress, bottom of reticule coming loose, tears to reticule. 2nd doll: light wear to eyebrows, light grime, small holes to dress.
