Patrick Fortier (Tennessee, 20th century) acrylic on canvas large format abstract painting, titled "Volkswagen Sky", depicting a Surrealist-style dreamscape comprised of a collared dog atop a striped form with muffler shaped end looking towards a yellow Volkswagen Beetle floating in a grey sky. An amorphous cloud like green shape with a yellow stripe and geometric forms diagonally fills the background with vertical yellow road lines to the lower right. Vertically signed "Fortier" lower right. Inscription with artist name and acession number as well as Twelfth Annual Delta Arts Exhibit paper label affixed, en verso of canvas. Arkansas Arts Center Foundation permanent collection paper label affixed, en verso of stretcher. Housed in a thin, painted wooden frame. Sight: 48 1/2" H x 60" W. Framed: 49 1/4" H x 60 1/2" W. 1968-1968.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation to benefit the acquisitions fund.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Minute discoloration in upper left quadrant, measuring 2 5/8" L. Minor loss to paint layer at lower edge, measuring 1/4" x 3/8". Frame with scattered discoloration and wear to surface.
