Four (4) John Gould (British, 1804-1881) and H.C. Richter (British, 1821-1902) colored lithographs of birds. 1st-2nd items: Two (2) lithographs of hummingbirds printed by Hullmandel and Walter, London, including one (1) PETASOPHORA THALASSINA, also known as Mexcian Violet Ear, depicting two birds perched upon a flowering branch with an additional bird drinking from a flower; and one (1) FLORISUGA MELLIVORA, also known as White-necked Jacobin, depicting two birds flitting around a large flower while an additional bird perches on its leaf. Both items with artists, title, and printer information to lower edge. Both housed and matted under glass in giltwood frames. Sights: 19 3/4" H x 13" W. Frames: 29 1/8" H x 25 5/8" W. 3rd-4th items: Two (2) lithographs of swallows printed by Walter or Walter and Cohn, London, including one (1) CHELIDON URBICA, also known as Common House Martin, depicting one bird feeding another in mid-air with additional birds in the background over pond; and one (1) HIRUNDO RUSTICA, also known as Barn Swallow, depicting one bird feeding another in mid-air with additional birds and a herd of cattle on the ground in the background. Both items with artists, title and printer information to lower edge. Each with enlarged print of the first page of each species' entry in THE BIRDS OF GREAT BRITAIN, by John Gould, printed by Taylor and Francis, London, 1873 within slip, en verso of backing. Both housed and matted under glass in chrome-painted wooden frames. Sights: 19 7/8" H x 12 7/8" W. Frames: 27 1/4" H x 20 1/4" W. All items 19th century.

CONDITION: 1st-2nd items: Both prints with toning commensurate with age. PETASOPHORA THALASSINA print with area of discolored toning to right edge. FLORISUGA MELLIVORA print with minor acid burn to left side measuring 1/8" dia.; mat with moisture spot to lower right corner measuring 5/8" x 7 1/4". 3rd-4th items: Both items in overall very good conditin.
