1st item: Howard Finster (American, 1916-2001) lion figure or bookend, paint and marker on pine cut-out board, with eyes, lips, tongues interspersed with phrases related to God and Space, including: "In space they will learn of God". Base details Finster's spiritual position on Animals, such as "God created all animals for all people" and "Human and animal blood don't agree." Signed on the front "By Howard Finster". Numbered with additional signature, en verso and on top of base. 11 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W x 3 3/4" D. 2nd item: Roy Finster (b. 1941) paint and marker on wood cut out figure of Daniel Boone, attired in a blue shirt with tree and star decoration, a brown strap sheath with knife, and a black hat. Inscription, lower right quadrant, reads "George Washington the settlers fought the French and Indians after the fight Boone went home to Kentucky". Signed and titled, lower right. Signed and dated "1991", en verso. 14 1/2" H x 10 1/4" W. (Note: Roy Finster is the son of Howard Finster).
PROVENANCE: Private Memphis collection.
CONDITION: Both items in overall good condition. Lion loose on base. Boone with some wear and small losses to edge of hat and lower left corner.
