English George III sterling silver soup tureen and cover, Neoclassical design, oblong form with shaped cover having an engraved griffin crest and a loop handle with acanthus overlay; plain body with gadrooned edge, lion’s mask and loop bail handles with acanthus overlay, engraved griffin armorial crest to each side; atop an oblong pedestal base with gadrooned neck and raised oval center, atop four ball feet. Marks on side of base and lid for Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard I, London, 1808. 11 3/4″ H x 12 1/2″ W x 9″ D. 114.740 troy ounces. Provenance: Private Lookout Mountain, TN collection. CONDITION: Denting to lid around the handle, dent to inner lid corner. Surface with general use wear and minor surface scratching.
