Watercolor and gouache Orientalist painting depicting the entry steps of a lavish tented palace flanked by pairs of carved trumpeting elephants with the Taj Mahal visible across the Yamuna River in the background beneath a slivered crescent moon in the night sky. Study of a landscape painted en verso. Housed and double matted under glass in a bamboo molded giltwood frame. Sight: 11 3/4" H x 15 3/4" W. Framed: 17 5/8" H x 21 5/8" W. Late 19th/early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Minor toning to paper. Otherwise in overall very good condition. Not examined outside of the frame.
