Japanese painted scroll in the Chinese taste depicting a group of bulls and a calf in a naturalistic landscape with cherry blossom trees, grassy hills, rocky terrain, and Mount Fuji visible in the distant background. Signed in calligraphy in the lower right corner black Japanese characters and stamped with a red seal. Pencil inscribed "Fujisan" to the edge of the scroll. Mounted to a silk brocade with laid paper backing. Image: 33 1/2" H x 11 1/2" W. Whole: 65" H x 16 1/4" W. Likely Edo period, 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Property from the Collection of Jo Ann Cline Yates, Lookout Mountain Tennessee.
CONDITION: Some creasing to upper laid paper margin and one tear along upper handle. approximately 5" L. One taped tear below the image, visible en verso. Image with toning, particularly along left edge, and minor foxing spots.
