Pair of two (2) Chinese watercolor and gouache paintings on silk; one (1) depicting an elderly male civil official in a blue coat, tiered cap, and white beaded necklace and one (1) depicting a woman in a red coat, ceremonial headdress, and yellow beaded necklace. Both are portrayed seated with crane-embroidered rank badges on a tiered stand with decorative carpet below. Both housed in giltwood bamboo frames with black filets under glass. Sights: 36" H x 24" W. Framed: 39" H x 27" W. Both early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Both in overall very good condition with slight toning and foxing spots. One with errant residue in lower right corner. Frames with wear and slight losses. Not examined outside of frames.
