Four (4) Chinese and Japanese scroll paintings, all watercolor on silk, including one (1) painting of chicks with pink peonies, one (1) painting of carp and goldfish, one (1) painting of butterflies and flowers, and one (1) painting depicting a hunter with bow and arrow. All with calligraphic inscriptions and seal marks; painting of fish and painting of butterflies with additional calligraphic inscriptions and seal marks en verso. All mounted to silk brocades with paper backing. Sizes of paintings range from 16" H x 12 1/2" W to 46" H x 14" W. Lengths of scrolls range from 50" to 74". Hunter painting possibly 19th century, others 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of the late Fount and Ida Smothers, Thompson's Station, Tennessee, acquired when they visited China as part of a US-sponsored cultural exchange delegation of architects in the early 1970s.
CONDITION: All in overall good condition with minor toning, scattered foxing (particularly to the Hunter painting) and minor creasing.
