American School, circa 1870 full length portrait of a gentleman identified as C.G. or C.C. Grant of Niagara Falls, New York. The middle aged subject is depicted holding a large partially rolled up document, and standing beside a table with his hat laying sideways, and a large book propped beside the table. Possible artist initials painted inside the hat, "OS." Housed in the original ornate Aesthetic Movement giltwood frame with multi-motif moldings. Note: the painting was purchased with an oral history that the subject was C.G. or C.C. Grant of Niagara Falls, New York. Sight – 27 1/2"H x 19 1/2"W. Frame – 36"h x 29"W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Hunter Kay, Franklin, Tennessee.
