Four (4) Purvis Young (Florida, 1943-2010) outsider art paintings on paper. 1st item: Acrylic on thick white paper painting of an industrial scene with a train in the lower portion and figures working in the upper portion with architectural motifs in the background, rendered in shades of red, yellow, turquoise, and black. Unsigned. Stabilized with a piece of scrap or found paper adhered en verso. 2nd item: Two (2) paintings on one piece of unfolded found or scrap paper, both depicting abstract figures or lines rendered with "squiggly" loose brush strokes in shades of yellow, black, and white, one vertically aligned and one horizontally aligned. Signed "Young" near the center fold. 3rd-4th items: Two paintings rendered on yellow found or scrap paper using red, turquoise, and black paint, one (1) depicting an abstract black figure with red figures or lines in the background and one (1) depicting a face against a background with shading and abstract undulating lines. Both unsigned. Both stabilized on a piece of white found or scrap paper adhered en verso. Sizes ranging from 11" H x 8" W to 17 1/2" H x 11 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of Jay Justice, South Carolina.
CONDITION: 1st item: Wear to edges, a crease to lower center, tearing to corners, and one tear to lower edge, may have existed prior to artist use. 2nd item: Overall very good condition with light toning and wear to edges. 3rd-4th items: Both in very good condition with two areas where paper residue adheres to the surface of the work having been layered before paint was dried, some tearing to backing.
