Two (2) coin silver teaspoons attributed to Joseph Thorp Elliston (1779-1856), active Nashville, Tennessee, 1797-1820, with plain fiddle handles marked ITE in rectangles. 5 5/8 in. and 5 3/4 in. L. Weight .79 total troy ounces. Note: Joseph Thorp Elliston was born in 1779 in Culpepper, Virginia. He apprenticed with Samuel Ayres and, in 1797, established himself as Nashville’s first silversmith and also served as Nashville’s fourth mayor. This mark is illustrated on page 81 in the book Tennessee Silversmiths by Dr. Benjamin H. Caldwell.

CONDITION:
Both spoons with worn script monograms, minor denting to the bowls, and wear to the tips. One with slight bending to the handle.
