American cherry and white pine cellaret form or bottle case. Hinged top with rounded molded edges over a dovetailed case with batwing brass escutcheon, opening to a fitted, velvet-lined interior. Fits into a base with square legs. Overall: 31 1/2 in. H x 21 1/2 in W x 17 3/4 in. D. Case early 19th century, base/stand has age but is likely later.
PROVENANCE: Private Kentucky collection, by descent from Jeannette Marks of Lexington
CONDITION: Full split to top, interior lined for silver chest, some stains and abrasions to top, replaced strip to top near front, lock missing, escutcheon possibly replaced, stand shows some shrinkage to legs. Replaced strip at top of case.
