Two (2) charcoal on paper drawings by children's book illustrator Tasha Tudor (American/New England, 1919-2008). 1st item: A large, gestural drawing of a seated tabby cat within a heart decorated with ribbon or lace and topped with a bow. Text above the heart reads: "To Libby / Happy Valentines." Humorous text within the heart reads: "Be Mine / You Make Me Think of Tender Birds." Drawing is dated "February 12, 1987" in lower right. Housed under glass in a modern gilt and black wood frame. Sight: 35 1/2" H x 23 1/2" W. Frame: 39 1/8" H x 26 3/4" W. 2nd item: A gestural drawing of a seated girl wearing a Victorian-era dress with hands folded in lap, viewed frontally. Her high-backed chair is visible behind her and her hair is pulled into a bun and adorned with ribbons. Drawing is signed "T. Tudor" in lower right. Housed under glass in a modern gilt and black wood frame. Sight: 27 1/2" H x 21 1/2" W. Frame: 31" H x 24 3/4" W.
PROVENANCE: Private Hawkins County, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. 1st item: Top right corner is torn and missing, partially obscuring the name "Libby." Some buckling and creasing throughout. 2nd item: Some buckling and creasing throughout. Not examined out of frames.
