Alabama coin silver handled cup or mug, marked on underside CAMPBELL & YONGUE in rectangle, attr. John Campbell, b. Sullivan's Island, South Carolina 1824, working in partnership in Montgomery, Alabama circa 1850 with Robert Aiken Yongue, also originally of South Carolina (Yongue returned to Columbia, S.C. by 1852). We wish to thank Catherine Hollan, author of the forthcoming book South Carolina Silversmiths to 1861, for her help confirming the site and approximate dates of this short lived partnership, which has alternately been attributed to both South Carolina and Alabama. CONDITION: 1/4" dent to side, old solder repair to handle, scattered small minor scratches.
