James Vance Miller (West Virginia/Virginia, 1912-2002) oil on canvas winter snow landscape titled "Winter Glow" depicting a forest scene with freshly fallen snow. Inscribed signature lower right "J. Vance Miller". Housed in a gilt wood frame with linen matte. Old label with title and artist's signature en verso. Sight – 35 1/2" H x 23 1/2" W. Framed – 41" H x 28 1/8" W. Biography: James Vance Miller began painting in 1944 as a self taught artist, and it eventually became his full time work. He considered his paintings done in the Jefferson National Forest outside Blacksburg, Virginia, to be some of his finest work. He exhibited at various galleries and shows throughout the South including at the Fine Arts Museum of Western Virginia and the Worlds Fair in Knoxville, and was Artist in Residence for The Greenbrier Hotel in Lewisburg, W.
