1st item: Continental Boulle Marquetry double inkstand, faux red tortoise veneered lacquer, with brass inlay and bronze mounts, featuring dual curved pen trays, ink wells, and a center compartment with bronze pull, and mounted with four Rococo-style gilt bronze feet. Labeled to the bottom and to the bottom of the interior compartment for retailer, “F. L. Hausberg / Goldsmith & Jeweller / Old Post Office Building / Liverpool”. 14 in. W x 10 in. D x 3 in. H. 19th century. 2nd item: English antique oak bottle case with mahogany and light wood fan inlay to each corner of the top. Fitted with a brass bail handle on the top and a brass lock. 11 in. H x 14 in. W x 13 in. D. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Michael Spalding, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition. Some wear, cracking and lifting to tortoise veneers, but veneer is largely intact. Some chipping and cracking to lacquer on underside. 2nd item: Scattered wear and abrasions to the surface, some sun fading, together with some wood shrinkage noted to the top. The top does not rest flush with the front box top edge.
