After William Sydney Mount (American/New York, 1807-1868) oil on canvas genre painting titled "Village Entertainment" depicting a group of figures and animals gathered in a town square around a man and woman dancing while a woman winds a music box, with village architecture in the background under a cloudy sky. Unsigned. Attribution and title on nameplate, lower center. Possibly by Christian Friedrich Mayr (New York/Germany, 1805-1851). Housed in a painted wood frame. Sight: 24" H x 28 3/4" W. Framed: 31" H x 36" W.
CONDITION: Painting has been lined. Overall alligatored craquelure due to heavy paint application, some of which have been inpainted. Area of exfoliation in lower left corner, and some scattered areas of inpainting. Frame with paint loss and areas of separation.
