American School oil on canvas bust length portrait of a young gentleman attired in a black double breasted coat with a white collared shirt and black necktie against a neutral background. Housed in a simple wood frame with a gilt filet. Sight: 27 1/2" H x 21 1/2" W. Framed: 33" H x 27" W. American, mid 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: This painting underwent professional restoration in 1998 (Cumberland Art Conservation). It was lined with linen and glass fabric, filled, repaired a tear to lower margin, and impainted, and coated in a gloss.
