Continental School, Renaissance style painting depicting a procession of young women before a King and his advisors, likely the selection of Esther as Queen (note Vashti being stripped of her crown in the background). Possibly late 19th century after a fresco mural depicting the Biblical account. Simple wood frame. Illegible pen signature or inscription en verso of canvas, possibly Je Lorrebourse or De Pazzebourse. 19" x 53" sight, 19-1/2" x 53-1/2" framed. Condition: Painting has been cleaned with scattered inpainting to one woman's dress and to advisers' clothing, and likely relined. Some scattered cracquelure. Likely later stretcher.
