1st item: Richard Dighton (England, 1785-1880) 19th century watercolor profile portrait painting titled "Mr. Thornton, A City Merchant," depicting a man in a black coat holding a hat in his left hand and an umbrella in his right hand. Signed "Rick Dighton" lower right. Title and information about the artist en verso. Housed in a contemporary frame with two mats under plexiglass. Sight: 9 1/2" H x 6" W. Framed: 24" H x 16" W. 2nd item: English or American watercolor and gouache portrait of a gentleman in mid-19th-century attire, seated before a red drape and column; books and an inkwell with two quills at a table to the left. Unsigned. Housed under glass in a wooden frame with a gilt sight edge. Sight: 8" H x 6" W. Framed: 14" H x 12" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville, Tennessee estate.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition with some light creasing in lower left hand corner. 2nd item: Overall very good condition with light toning; scattered minute areas of paint loss across top of painting. Neither painting examined outside of frame.
