Two paintings by Sterling Boyd Strauser (Pennsylvania, 1907-1995). 1st item: Small oil on board Impressionist style seascape painting rendered with delicate impasto depicting rolling waves and seafoam under a blue sky. Signed and dated "Strauser 89" upper right corner. Housed in a custom carved giltwood frame with a linen liner. Sight: 3 1/2" H x 10" W. Framed: 6 11/2" H x 13 1/2" W. 2nd item: Oil on board abstract painting titled "The Dark Horse" depicting two harness race jockeys in two-wheeled carts pulled by trotting horses, a red horse leading the way and a black horse following behind. Signed "Strauser" upper right corner. Title inscribed en verso of board, a picture of which is affixed en verso. Float mounted in a custom giltwood frame against a tan background. Sight:3 3/4" H x 14 3/4" W. Framed: 9" H x 20" W.
PROVENANCE: Private Middle Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: 1st item: Good condition with possible abrasion to upper left corner, some scattered grime and inclusions. 2nd item: Excellent condition.
