Oil on canvas painting, possibly an original illustration for an advertisement for Edison's home phonograph, depicting an elderly couple listening to a phonograph in their kitchen, the man seated and his wife singing while standing. The image was used on a chromolithographic advertising trade card for the Edison phonograph, copyright the National Phonograph Company, 1905. Housed in a decorative wooden frame with off white rabbet edge. Sight – 21 3/8" H x 35 3/8" W. Framed – 27 1/2" H x 41 1/4" W. Late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of internationally known ragtime pianist and historian Johnny Maddox, Gallatin, TN. CONDITION: Overall excellent condition.
