Alfred Hutty (Charleston, South Carolina, 1877-1954), two pencil on paper figure studies. First drawing is a rear view of an African American woman with basket of laundry perched on her head, standing with one arm akimbo and the other arm holding a long stick. Signed lower right "Alfred Hutty." Light olive mat and later ebonized molded frame. 7" x 4-1/3" sight, 14-1/2" x 11-1/2" framed. 2nd drawing depicts an African American man walking with a cane, wearing a hat and baggy clothes. Number notations on right side top and bottom, unsigned. Later black mat and narrow gilded molded frame. 4" x 2-3/4" sight, 12" x 10" framed. Lot includes the book "Alfred Hutty and the Charleston Renaissance" by Boyd Sanders and Ann McAden (Sandlapper Publishing, 1990). Provenance: Private Middle Tennessee Collection.
