Punched Tin Andrew Jackson parade lantern, cylindrical with domed top and handle, the punched design reading “Andrew Jackson Forever” across the body with ” Jan 8th 1832 ” across the top, surmounted by a row of stars. Exhibited Cheekwood Museum of Art, “Nashville Collects”, circa 1990. 13-1/2″ H x 5-1/4″ diameter. Provenance: estate of A. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn., purchased from Sotheby’s (lot 762, unknown sale number/date). Note: Jan. 8, 1815 was the date associated with General Jackson’s victory in the Battle of New Orleans. This was likely a commemorative piece, possibly made around the time of his re-election. Condition: Lacks top handle, two small holes in base, 1 broken hinge with lost nail.
