Painted satinwood folding desk or escritoire. Rectangular hinged front with inlaid oval veneer, the contrasting veneer surrounding it decorated with painted vines and flowers, drops down to form a writing or painting surface with interior fitted for storage of inkwells and pens (1 inkwell retained). Interior is partially papered. Painted stretcher joins two Regency style painted downswept legs. Back surface covered in a tapestry style fabric. 47-1/4"H x 22"W x 17-3/8"D. English, probably third quarter 19th century. Condition: Overall good condition with expected wear: shrinkage to front panel, 2 long areas of patching to center front panel, wear to painting on feet with possible additional repainting. Some staining to upholstered back; upholstery on back is likely replaced. Some interior paper is peeling. Original hinges (one is loose). Some minor veneer chipping to front edge of drop down front (visible when front is let down).
