American Aesthetic Movement ebonized lady's writing desk, in the Anglo-Japanese style. Pierced geometric and carved gallery across the mirrored back with a bird centering two large floral sprays carved in the frieze of the mirror. Hinged top with foliate carved designs that lifts to reveal a fitted interior and folds out to reveal a felt writing surface. Each side with two dovetailed storage drawers. All resting on a carved stretcher style base fitted with casters. 56 3/4" H x 31 1/4" W x 19" D. Last quarter 19th century. Provenance: Private Knoxville, TN collection. CONDITION: Overall very good condition with general wear. Moderate wear and fading to felt on writing surface. Old repaired break to carving on lower right side.
