Jesus Emmanuel Villarreal (American/Venezuela, b. 1984) oil on board and graphite drawing on paper, both studies for the painting titled "The Mirror", which is a full-length self portrait of the artist depicted standing with his paint palette in his studio. Both are unsigned and are housed in modern ebonized wood frames. Drawing – Sight: 14 7/8" H x 9 7/8" W. Framed: 29 1/2" H x 23 1/2" W. Painting – Sight: 9 1/4" H x 15 1/4" W. Framed: 14 1/2" H x 20 1/2" W. Biography (from the artist's website): Figurative painter Jesus Emmanuel Villareal studied at the South Miami School of Arts, and with Abdon J. Romero. He earned his B.F.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art, in Baltimore in 2006, and then spent three years studying and graduating from The Florence Academy of Art. Upon returning to America, Villarreal started teaching at The Silvermine Arts Center, in New Canaan, Connecticut, and was a guest lecturer at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, in Old Lyme, Connecticut. He later taught at the new branch of The Florence Academy of Art in New Jersey. Over his career, Villarreal has won numerous awards, scholarships, and honors, including the Grand Prize in the 2011 Portrait Society of America's International Portrait Competition, the Art Renewal Center's Annual Scholarship Competition, and The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant among others. His paintings have been featured in several group and solo exhibitions including at Forum Gallery in New York, and his work is in the permanent collection of the New Britain Museum of American Art.
