Three (3) Louis Jones American/Tennessee, 1878-1958) Great Smoky Mountains landscape drypoint etchings. All signed and titled in pencil, lower margin. All housed under glass in original, ebonized wood frames with French lines. Item 1: Etching entitled “The Chimneys” with the steep peaks of the Chimney Tops mountains behind a group of trees that stand in the foreground, 1950. Sight: 3 1/4 in H x 4 1/4 in W. Frame: 8 3/4 in H x 10 5/8 in W. Item 2: Etching entitled “A Mountain Stream” with a creek surrounded by rocky outcroppings, n.d. Sight: 3 1/4 in H x 4 in W. Frame: 8 3/4 in H x 10 5/8 in W. Item 3: Etching entitled “Among The High Tops” with a distant mountain range visible behind a slope filled with pine trees, 1950. Sight: 3 1/4 in H x 4 1/4 in W. Frame: 8 5/8 in H x 10 1/2 in W. Note: Louis Jones was born in Pennsylvania and worked in Woodstock, NY before he moved to East Tennessee in 1926, where he established the Cliff Dwellers studio in Gatlinburg. He helped promote the area as a scenic tourist destination.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. “A Mountain Stream” with even toning. Not examined outside of frames. Frames with minor abrasions and losses.
