18th century Trompe-l'oeil oil on canvas painting depicting two women peering out of a window surrounded by grape vines. The illusion of three-dimensionality is rendered through the use of architectural perspective and the oval shape of the canvas. Unsigned and unframed. 23 1/2" H x 29" W. Provenance: Private Tennessee collection. CONDITION: Overall poor condition with craquelure and rippling to canvas. Three tears, 5" x 3" area, first woman's left arm, 1" x 1/2" area, second woman's head and hair, and 1" area, top left of canvas. Two areas of restoration, 5" x 3 1/2" area, left side of first woman's face and 1 1/2" square area, second woman's right arm. areas of paint loss, largest 4", edges of canvas. Approximately 12 1/2" area of canvas separated from stretcher, top left.
