Charles E. Osgood (Massachusetts, 1809-1890) oval oil on canvas three-quarter view portrait painting depicting a middle aged female with dark upswept hair, lace blouse with brooch, black lace trimmed dress and ermine fur wrap. Signed and dated "November 1853 by Osgood/Salem/ Age 53" en verso. Housed in a carved gilt oval frame with morning glory and leaf border. Sight – 29 1/8" H x 24" W. Framed – 38" H x 33 1/4" W. CONDITION: Slight crazing overall. Black light shows no inpainting or alterations. Minor loss along left edge of frame and behind gilt leaf located approximately 2 inches from bottom near center. Later added gilt paint and some repairs to frame, note lower right inner border.
