2 Native American, likely Iroquois, FALSE FACE carved wooden masks. 1st item: Carved and painted Iroquois FALSE FACE mask having red and black polychrome paint. 11 1/2" H x 8 1/2" W. 20th century. 2nd item: Carved Native American FALSE FACE mask with inset copper eyes, protruding tongue and black horse hair. 10 1/4" H x 8" W. 20th century. Provenance: Property from the estate of Dorothy Louise Luhrs, PhD, (1910-1972), Archaeologist with University of New Mexico/School of American Research Field School, whose studies and research included the Una Via Chaco Canyon, NM, Largo Canyon, NM, Guatemala, Mexico, and the Hoopa Indian Reservation in northern California. Luhrs was also president of the Southwestern Anthropological Association from 1950-51. Condition: Both overall very good condition with light expected wear.
