British or American School, circa 1861, portrait of a dark haired lady in a Renaissance Revival style off the shoulders blouse, velvet vest, and headband, depicted with her head slightly turned and fingers joined, wearing pearl and gold bracelets and a ruby ring, before an indistinct background with red drape to side. Later silvered molded frame. Sight: 29 1/2"H x 24 1/2"W. Frame: 35"h x 30"W. Note: This blouse and velvet vest is similar to ones worn by fashionable young ladies in the early 1860s. (Ref. PROVENANCE: A Middle Tennessee estate.
CONDITION: Professionally conserved by Cumberland Art Conservation, Nashville, 2010, including lining and inpainting. Inspection under UV light reveals repaired L tears upper center edge, center right edge, and to subject's wrist, scattered minor inpainting to forehead, neck, and hands.
