Swiss interchangable brass cylinder 8-tune music box, rosewood marquetry and burlwood case having a brass and mother-of-pearl cartouche to top and front and ebonized trim. Fitted with a steel comb and a lever winding mechanism. Upright lyre-shaped tune indicator indicating 8 tunes. Cylinder marked "34523/No. 2/56". Fitted with lower drawer for housing additional 13" cylinders (see condition report). Box equipped for coin operation, fully functional. 12" H x 33 3/4" W x 13 3/4" D. Late 19th century. Provenance: Montgomery, Alabama estate. CONDITION: Mother-of-pearl inlay around escutcheon with separations. 3/4" x 3/4" area of repair to mother-of-pearl inlay around escutcheon on lower drawer. Repair to veneer on one corner of lid. Lower drawer presumably containing cylinders locked, key not present. All teeth present to comb. Mechanism appears to be fully functional.
