Juan Gimenez Martin (Spanish, 1855/58-1901) oil on panel painting depicting a row of buildings on the Grande Canal in Venice. Signed lower left. Pencil inscription en verso reads, "Juan Gimenez Martin, Canal Grande (Venecia)". Housed in a gilt wood frame. Sight – 8 7/8" H x 5 1/2" W. Framed – 12 3/8" H x 9" W. European, late 19th century. Provenance: the collection of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Slaymaker, Nashville, Tennessee. Biography: Juan Gimenez Martin studied in Madrid and Rome and traveled throughout Italy in the early to mid 1880s.
