Continental, likely Nymphenburg parcel gilt porcelain cup and saucer. Cup with bisque relief portrait of a man believed to be the Duke of Leuchtenberg, on a blue oval reserve surrounded by Neoclassical stenciled gilt decoration, the handle with figural lion head at top and duck head at base, gilt interior; the saucer with gilt painted monogram “E” on a gilt stenciled ground. Impressed marks to underside. Old label en verso with sitter and maker attribution and possible accession number. Cup 3 3/4 in. H, Saucer 5 3/4 in. diam. German, 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Chattanooga area collection.
CONDITION: Repair to handle terminus at duck head, appears to be an overpainted chip with gilding restoration versus a reattachment. Otherwise excellent condition.
