World War I Propaganda Illustration oil on canvas painting titled "For the Freedom of the People". Depicts Allies President Woodrow Wilson, Tsar Nicholas, French Prime Minister George Clemenceau, and an Italian Bersaglieri with plumed helmet, sword and flag; all standing around a cannon, in front of a composite style landscape with soldiers, American and other flags, war ships, and buildings; a banner in the foreground reads "For the Freedom of the People." Signed "G. P___ ", possibly for George Waller Parker (American, 1888-1957), in red lower right corner. Housed in a later ebonized and giltwood frame with acanthus carved corner elements. 19" x 15" canvas, 26" x 21" frame. Provenance: the estate of Delle Brown, Nashville, TN. Delle Brown and her late husband Malvern Brown were, for many years, the proprietors of Trace Tavern Antiques. CONDITION: Light grime; overall craquelure, wax lining. No inpainting detected under blacklight.
