1st item: Japanese lacquered letter box, incised floral hinges and escutcheons and shaped handle, lids decorated with gold lacquered bird on flowering tree branch, 2 velvet-lined compartments. 3-3/4" H x 10" W x 7 1/2" D. 2nd item: Chinese lacquered box of octagonal form with sectioned interior, lid decorated with 2 flying birds and large flower spray, all outlined by gilt frieze. Shaped sides with gilt decoration. Base of box with gilt frieze and shaped supports. 3 3/4" H x 12 3/4" dia. 3rd item: Chinese Qing Dynasty rosewood dressing box with engraved butterfly-form steel hinges, three sides inset with carved, painted, and gilded figural scenes. Hinged top folds open to reveal original mirror. 7" H x 9"W x 12"D. All boxes late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: Estate of Mrs. Mary Ann Bowers Thomas, Athens, Alabama. Condition: 1st item: Pins missing from hinges on one lid. Minor loss to decoration and some surface grime. 2nd item: Repairs to 2 feet. Surface scratch across flower on lid and minimal losses, largest 3/8". Surface grime. 3rd item: Dressing Box: Small (1"L) loss to underside of front edge, some minor loss of silvering to edges of mirror, front clasp broken off but retained.
