American Classical Revival Sterling Silver Compote or Tazza, c. 1860, featuring an oval gilt-washed bowl with dart banding at edges and stylized anthemion handles, supported on a trumpet-shaped pedestal flanked by two figural winged griffins, on a dart-banded base with four stepped feet. Marked on underside for Shreve and Stanwood (Boston, Massachusetts, working 1860-1869), 925/1000 and numbered 155. Overall: 8"H x 9"W x 5"D. 19.4 oz troy.
PROVENANCE: The estate of a Nashville, Tennessee silver collector.
