Spanish Colonial paint on metal painting or retablos depicting the Archangel San Miguel. Paint on metal with newer wood board backer. Marker on board attributes the retablo to an anonymous 19th century artist and lists provenance as the Juarez Frias collection. Housed in a modern figured wood frame. Sight – 14 1/8" H x 10 1/8" W. Framed – 18" H x 14" W. Provenance: Estates of Olen Bryant and late Vanderbilt University art professor Thomas Brumbaugh, Clarksville/Cottontown, Tennessee; ex-Fernando Juarez Frias, author of the book "Retablos Populares Mexicanos: Iconografia Religiosa del Siglo XIX". CONDITION: Minor pinprick loss to paint lower right corner. Light abrasions to the frame.
