Lot 749: Louis Icart Signed Etching, Black Shawl

Louis Justin Laurent Icart (French, 1888-1950) etching and aquatint with hand coloring, “Black Shawl.” A woman in a black dress smells a flower while she holds a shawl in her right hand. Pencil signed lower right. With printed text to upper left margin that reads: “Copyright 1925 by les Graveurs Modernes 194 rue de Rivoli Paris.” Housed under glass in a gilt and ebonized wood frame with tan mat. Sight: 17 3/4 in. H x 12 3/4 in W. Framed: 24 1/4 in. H x 19 1/4 in. W. 1925.

PROVENANCE: Private East Tennessee Collection.

CONDITION: Overall very good condition, with toning to sheet along sight edge. Mat with toning plus minor tideline to lower right. Not examined outside of frame. Frame with minor abrasions and losses.
